Good afternoon pumpkins!
A few days I woke up with a terrible headache, dizziness, and severe nausea. I thought I had managed to catch a serious virus or the flu. Lucky for me, it was 7am and my mom was still home. I was too dizzy to get out of bed and I had to textmy mom to rescue me with ginger ale and a cold glass of water. She brought in the thermometer to check my temperature: Normal. (Thanks for saving me mom
.. Moms always know best!)
Weird, but I was feeling too awful to self-diagnose myself and went back to sleep.
I woke up that morning at 10am. I don’t remember the last time I slept past 7am. I knew something was off. I chugged some more water and started to feel better. Then it clicked: I was dehydrated
Signs of dehydration:
- dizziness
- headache
- nausea/vomiting
- thirst
- dry mouth
- sleepiness
- decreased urine output
Let’s just say I could have checked all of those off that morning.
Water makes up 60% of your body’s composition. It helps to flush toxins, rehydrate your body, and carries nutrients to your cells.
The Mayo clinic recommends to hydrate the day before any strenuous workout and to replenish water stores during and after exercising as well (source). They recommend anywhere from 1-3 cups of water pre workout.
After learning my lesson the hard way. I always have an extra water bottle on hand along with my favorite tervis tumblr
